Mariam Avagyan

“I first participated in a YES program in 2015. The personal growth I had during this program is hard to measure—I learned a ton about myself and the world, as well as the power I had to positively impact my community. As a child, I dreamt about having the power of educating and empowering every child in Armenia, which seemed like an impossible dream, but YES helped me shape my dreams into reality as that is exactly what I am doing now.”

Mariam is currently a PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering, as well as a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. Mariam is also an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at the American University of Armenia, as well as a writer at Kooyrigs. She is passionate about and dedicated to women’s empowerment and children’s education in Armenia.
