We are super excited to announce our new Partnership with Kooyrigs (www.kooyrigs.org) and inspire connection between mentees and mentors through our new HOOYS project!
Hooys is a career mentorship program that provides the Armenian youth with guidance and support, and helps them connect and empower each other. We hope that HOOYS will create significant connections that will last a lifetime as well as encourage Armenians to lift each other up!
We have done career mentorship for years! Mentees have mostly been our program alumni and volunteers — once they participate in a YES program, they become a part of our big YES family. We have supported our alumni in their career pursuits, university applications, fundraisers, business plans, etc. We primarily focus on the youth in Armenia’s regions, especially in border villages.
We started Hooys in collaboration with Kooyrigs, because we saw a big need for career mentorship, as well as big interest from potential mentors.
Anyone can participate in Hooys–mentees and mentors living in and outside of Armenia, but preference will be given to mentees from Armenia’s regions. To participate in Hooys, both mentors and mentees will go through an application process where they will need to fill out an application form and pass an interview. Once admitted to the program, all mentees and mentors will go through an orientation process led by professionals (we are also working with therapists who can further facilitate the program and provide guidance, if needed).
The program will consist of 30-minute weekly calls between mentors and mentees. We will facilitate them with topics of conversation, as well as keep in track of interactions by asking both parties to fill out surveys after each interaction.
With Hooys, we hope to motivate children to stay engaged and excited about school. With COVID-19, schools being online, as well as aggressions from Azerbaijan, concentrating on school can be extremely difficult for children.
